Skincare Crash Course

Updated: Oct 23, 2022

Always Wear Sunscreen The suns rays are harmful to your skin and contribute to collagen breakdown. Collagen is a protein within the skin that helps keep it tight and youthful. As you can probably guess when collagen breaks down the skin will begin to sag and you will start to notice more fine lines and wrinkles as a result. If you are actively trying to fade dark spots, pigmentation and discolouration skipping the SPF in your morning routine could undo all of your hard work. This is due to the fact that discolouration gets darker with exposure to the sun. Sun exposure is cumulative and adds up, so even when going on a short walk or getting sun through a window of when driving you car should all be prepared for with proper SPF products.

  1. Basic Skincare Routine If you are just getting into skincare and don't know what you need, my suggestion is to start small and add on gradually. I've put below a basic skincare routine in the order i would suggest, give this a go and as you and your skin adapt you can add more adventurous products. - Cleansing with a gentle cleanser for your skin type - Treatment product for specific skin concerns [acne, redness, dehydrated skin] - Moisturizer + SPF in the morning - Exfoliation periodically [a couple of times a week]

  2. Do Not Sleep In Your Makeup! Please ladies, do not sleep in your makeup. I know at the end of a huge day or a big night it can seem like a chore to remove the makeup that you spent an hour applying so carefully, but trust me it needs to be done. Not only will you likely ruin your bedding, but when we sleep our skin goes through a self renewal process and looks to the surface to pull in nutrients. The last thing you want to do is leave it with nothing but bronzer and highlighter.

  3. Be Consistent Generally it is a lack of consistency that stops people seeing results from their skincare. Start out with a skincare routine that is maintainable for you and is something that you can commit to doing every morning and night. Just because someone else has a 15 step skincare routine, that doesn't mean that it is necessary or maintainable for you.

  4. Use a moisturizer So many people with oily skin sabotage themselves by avoiding moisturizer under the false pretense that it will make their skin even oilier. This is nothing more than a myth, Every skin type needs moisture. Yes even oily skin. Avoiding moisturizer is actually creating more of it as when skin becomes dehydrated it produces more oil to compensate.

  5. Have Patience Unlike brushing your hair or putting on makeup skincare is a type of self care that takes time for the results to be visible, you need to be patient. For example fading dark spots or pigmentation you can expect 6-8 weeks of routine before you start seeing some results. Some treatments will work faster for example chemical exfoliates or at home peels like our Pineapple Enzyme Peel. Also for example, if you start using a deeply hydrating product you may even feel a difference in your skin the next morning.

  6. Give Yourself A Break A good skincare routine is important but it is normal to get breakouts, dark spots and uneven skin tone. Everyone has a different ideal of beautiful skin but it is important to love your skin at every stage of the journey.
